Social & Community Participation

Isolation is the health risk nobody funds directly. It is also the one we take most seriously.

Funded under Core Supports - Assistance with Social & Community Participation.

What this actually means

Social and community participation support is about access - to places, to groups, to the things you used to do or have always wanted to try. Sometimes that means a support worker beside you at the bowling alley. Sometimes it means the transport, the planning and the confidence to go on your own next time.

We start with what you actually enjoy, not a menu of activities. Our participants play tenpin bowling, work on enormous jigsaw puzzles, walk the Japanese gardens, go to the shops for no reason at all, and hold birthday afternoons in the Community Room. One of our favourite afternoons involved a guitar and a kitchen.

For people building towards more independence, this support doubles as skill-building - reading a timetable, managing money at the counter, navigating a venue, handling the unexpected. Independence is a set of practised skills, not a switch.

Group and one-to-one options are both available, and we are happy to support you to join community groups that have nothing to do with disability at all. That is usually the point.
